Things You Should Know about IVF & Acupuncture

Eggs and sperm take three months to make the journey from 'immature' to 'mature.'

When you receive fertility-enhancing treatment with acupuncture, herbs, or low-level light therapy to improve eggs, lining, or sperm, you will need to be treated for at least three months to see a change in quality.

In the non-IVF population, the rate of ectopic pregnancy is about 1%-2%. In the IVF population, the rate of ectopic pregnancy jumps to between 2%-8%.

On the day of your embryo transfer…

You will be treated about an hour before your transfer and then again right after the transfer. This helps prevent a 2%-8% chance of having an ectopic pregnancy and helps improve the chances of a uterine implantation. Ask me how.

You will continue to receive acupuncture twice weekly for 13 weeks to help prevent miscarriage. 90% of miscarriages occur by or before the 12th week of conception.

Even if your transferred embryo has been tested for chromosomal disorders and it is normal, you can still miscarry. There are two main culprits: intra-uterine-fetal-demise and intrauterine-growth-retardation. These occur due to insufficient blood delivery to the yolk sac initially and, starting at about week 5, to the placenta. Acupuncture and herbal medicine significantly reduce these potential consequences by substantially improving blood flow to the yolk sac and placenta. Once you reach 13 weeks, you have an excellent chance of carrying to term and producing a sweet, adorable little munchkin!

If, after your transfer, you do not conceive, we will continue to treat you twice weekly to improve your egg, lining, or sperm quality to help ensure a better outcome next time.
