Fertility Yoga at The Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness
Debbie Infanti, the Fertility-Yoga-Guru started her yoga journey 15 years ago.
As Debbie went through her teacher training, she realized that Yin Yoga was the discipline she wanted to become qualified in, and expert in.
Deb understands that women who are trying-to-conceive need more than just doctors’ appointments; they also need to learn to exhale, to become calm in the eye of the fertility storm; to proceed with a quiet and assured confidence, reduce stress and improve the quality of sleep. Yin Yoga offers this.
Yin Yoga is a meditative and slow-paced form of yoga, perfect for those who are trying-to-conceive.
Patients will experience an emotional and physical transformation from Yin Yoga. This is so needed and can now be obtained.
Yin Yoga for fertility focuses on postures that promote the circulation of blood in the ovaries/follicles/eggs/lining. The end-goal being better egg, and lining quality, while simultaneously creating a more calm and peaceful state of mind. We will take you from stress to bliss.
What is Yin Yoga?
In Yin Yoga, only the passive (yin) poses are used. The use of muscles is kept to a minimum, so the muscles are gently engaged to hold the posture without any extra effort. As the poses are to be held for a longer duration, the use of props like cushions, and bolsters, are encouraged. (we provide all cushions and bolsters).
Breathing Pattern
Conscious, controlled breathing is a central aspect of yoga. The way we regulate our breathing affects how our muscles and minds respond to a particular pose. In Yin Yoga, the emphasis is on relaxed belly breathing. Long, slow, and deep breaths are vital for letting the body relax and be in a pose for longer durations.
Functional Principles of Yin Yoga
When practicing and teaching Yin Yoga, you should keep these principles in mind:
- The purpose of yoga is to harmonize the flow of the prana (life energy) in our bodies.
- In a functional approach to Yin Yoga there is no perfect pose. Every hand and foot position either helps or inhibits our ability to stress the target areas. The most effective way to do this varies from person to person.
What are the Benefits of Yin Yoga
Physiological Benefits
Studies based on five-week Yin Yoga-based interventions have found that Yin Yoga works as a preventive tool in lowering plasma adrenomedullin. High ADM is one of the main causes of stress, anxiety, and depression. These are added risk factors for many non-communicable diseases.
Mental Benefits
Stress release – Yin Yoga helps to release deep-seeded stress. That is why you will often see people getting emotional or silently crying during classes. You should know that such reactions are completely normal and can be expected.
Emotional Benefits – It stimulates our endocrine glands by pressuring them during the long-held poses. The effect is an improved hormonal balance which results in more balanced emotions.
Clarity – There is power in stillness. The regular practice of sitting still and focusing brings mental clarity and a newfound internal calmness.
As a result of a calm mind, a settled spirit, and a healthier body, pregnancy is likely to be achieved earlier than later. And with much less stress and anxiety.
